1. Maximise the productivity of agricultural and horticultural land while reducing environmental effects

New Zealand’s primary industries generate over $30 billion a year in exports. Though recently impacted by weak prices for dairy and other commodities, the outlook is for sustained and steady growth. We are in a strong position to grow the value of primary exports and to increase on-farm productivity by introducing new farm systems with lower environmental impacts.

The Natural Resources Sector is focused on improving best practice and technology transfer to help farmers and growers increase on-farm productivity while managing within limits. Other activities include reducing risks to productivity such as pests, soil erosion, and soil contamination.
